Adventures in the New River Valley: Farmfest 2018

Join the New River Land Trust for FarmFest 2018 at Glade Road Growing, a conserved 48-acre property in Blacksburg, VA, on Saturday, September 1, 2018, from 5pm to 10pm.

Event Schedule:

• 5:00-6:00 pm: Farm Tour

• 6:00-10:00 pm: Music, Food, Ice Cream

• 6:00-8:00 pm: Make Bird Houses at the Kid’s Tent

• 6:45-7:15 pm: Guided Bird Walk

They will have live music from Swampcandy, food from Tabula Rasa on Glade, ice cream from Homestead Creamery, a farm tour and activities for the kids.

The Montgomery Museum celebrates it's annual Heritage Day on Saturday, August 25, 2018, 10:00AM – 3:00PM, on the lawn at the museum.

Heritage Day is a celebration of Montgomery County, VA and its history. There will be food and live entertainment all day.

Adventures in the New River Valley: 2018 Steppin' Out ®

The 38th Annual Steppin' Out® festival will be held in downtown Blacksburg on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 10:00 am - 11:00 pm and Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 10:00 am - 10:00 pm.

Steppin' Out is Southwest Virginia's premier street celebration! Steppin' Out® features over 200 artists and crafts people from around the United States selling unique handcrafted items: jewelry, pottery, textiles, metal work, basketry, stained & fused glass, yard art, fine art, furniture, toys, artisan foods and so much more!

Admission is free! Town of Blacksburg metered parking is all free and Blacksburg Transit provides free shuttles to get you there without the hassles.

New River Valley Rocketry presents the Two Day, High Power Summer Launch known as their Big Fine Summer Launch (BSFL) on Saturday, July 28, 2018 and Sunday, July 29, 2018 on Virginia Tech's property in Long Shop, Virginia.

The BFSL is NRV Rocketry's biggest, high power rocket launch of the year. This is the one you don't want to miss! If you’re interested in flying rockets or just relaxing outside and watching some cool flights, bring the whole family for free!

Launch Schedule:

• Saturday, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm: Commercial Launch

• Sunday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm: Research Launch

Food will be available for purchase and bathroom facilities will be available on site. Chris' Rocket Supplies, a rocket supply vendor, will also be on site.

The launch site is located a couple miles off Prices Fork Road in Long Shop, just 15 minutes from the Virginia Tech campus.

Historic Smithfield Plantation presents the Blacksburg Community Band in concert on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 4pm.

The Blacksburg Community Band, under the direction of Jay A. Durner, will be performing a variety of contemporary and classical arrangements for band at Historic Smithfield Plantation.

The Heartland Marimba Festival is coming to Blacksburg July 11-15 with free concerts for the public. They will be performing July 14th, at 5:00 PM in Burrus Auditorium on the Virginia Tech campus, this performance will feature the Marimba Orchestra.  Tickets are not required for the Blacksburg performance. 

The festival seeks to reach a range of audiences to help support and advance the classical marimba art form, its music, its composers, and its performers. The first Heartland Marimba Festival and Workshop took place in 2014 at Iowa State University, organized by founder and executive director Matthew Coley.

Draper Mercantile and Trading Company presents a Community Flea Market on Saturday, July 7, 2018 9:00am-2:00pm, at Merc Farms.

Enjoy a Community Flea Market featuring vendors, food, artists, live music and more! Vendors include honey & goat lotions, local produce, handcrafted jewelry, street dogs & breakfast burritos, fresh made doughnuts, fresh popped kettle corn and many more.

There will also be a fire truck on hand for kids and a planting class in the greenhouse.

Come out to the Motor Mile Speedway, Saturday, June 30 from 4:00pm-10:30pm, for the 2018 Monster Truck Show. 

Event Schedule:

(subject to change)

• 4:00 pm: Gates open

• 4:00-6:45 pm: Free Monster Truck Rides

• 5:00-6:30 pm: Free Pit Party

• 7:00 pm: Show starts

The Monsters are coming and bigger and better outside! This year's Monster Truck Show features Bigfoot, Avenger, Brutus, Hurricane Force, Bad Company and Storm Damage! And, there will be two ride trucks providing free Monster Truck rides!

Arrive early for the free Pre-Show Pit Party! And, enjoy the fireworks after the show.  The event is rain or shine.

Mystic River Lavender’s 3rd annual Lavender Festival will be held on Saturday June 23 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and on Sunday June 24 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. You can cut your own Fresh Lavender Bundles, learn about Lavender (planting, growing, how to care of your plants, etc.), purchase several varieties of Lavender plants as well as our line of Lavender based body care products.  They will have several other vendors on site (jewelry/blown glass, wood working, etc.) as well as a local food vendor. Come and visit for a fun, relaxing time immersed in the beauty of Lavender.
