The National Weather Service Office presents their 2018 Open House on Saturday, October 20, 2018, any time between 10:00 am until 3:000 pm.

Come out to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, VA for a tour of the facility and learn how the weather affects our region and what tools we use to observe, forecast, and communicate the weather.

The guided tour will last roughly an hour (the last tour group will start at 3:00 pm), and while there could be some initial wait time after you arrive and sign up, there will be other activities and displays outside to keep you occupied during any wait time.

Activities include:

• Watch a Simulated Weather Balloon Launch

• Hands-On Experiments

• Child-Friendly Weather Activities and Games

• Virginia Department of Transportation Snow Plow

• Virginia Department of Emergency Management communications Trailer

• Virginia Tech Meteorology / Storm Chasers

Blacksburg VA Home Sales August 2018

Blacksburg United Methodist Church presents their 2018 Back-to-School Block Party on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the Blacksburg UMC playground.

Families with kids in 5th grade or younger are invited to celebrate Back to School with us at a neighborhood Block Party. Have fun and make new friends as you enjoy the giant inflatable obstacle course, cupcake walk, face painting, games, crafts, and prizes!

This event is free and open to the community. No RSVP, just stop by.

Adventures in the New River Valley: Farmfest 2018

Join the New River Land Trust for FarmFest 2018 at Glade Road Growing, a conserved 48-acre property in Blacksburg, VA, on Saturday, September 1, 2018, from 5pm to 10pm.

Event Schedule:

• 5:00-6:00 pm: Farm Tour

• 6:00-10:00 pm: Music, Food, Ice Cream

• 6:00-8:00 pm: Make Bird Houses at the Kid’s Tent

• 6:45-7:15 pm: Guided Bird Walk

They will have live music from Swampcandy, food from Tabula Rasa on Glade, ice cream from Homestead Creamery, a farm tour and activities for the kids.

Adventures in the New River Valley: 2018 Steppin' Out ®

The 38th Annual Steppin' Out® festival will be held in downtown Blacksburg on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 10:00 am - 11:00 pm and Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 10:00 am - 10:00 pm.

Steppin' Out is Southwest Virginia's premier street celebration! Steppin' Out® features over 200 artists and crafts people from around the United States selling unique handcrafted items: jewelry, pottery, textiles, metal work, basketry, stained & fused glass, yard art, fine art, furniture, toys, artisan foods and so much more!

Admission is free! Town of Blacksburg metered parking is all free and Blacksburg Transit provides free shuttles to get you there without the hassles.

New River Valley Rocketry presents the Two Day, High Power Summer Launch known as their Big Fine Summer Launch (BSFL) on Saturday, July 28, 2018 and Sunday, July 29, 2018 on Virginia Tech's property in Long Shop, Virginia.

The BFSL is NRV Rocketry's biggest, high power rocket launch of the year. This is the one you don't want to miss! If you’re interested in flying rockets or just relaxing outside and watching some cool flights, bring the whole family for free!

Launch Schedule:

• Saturday, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm: Commercial Launch

• Sunday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm: Research Launch

Food will be available for purchase and bathroom facilities will be available on site. Chris' Rocket Supplies, a rocket supply vendor, will also be on site.

The launch site is located a couple miles off Prices Fork Road in Long Shop, just 15 minutes from the Virginia Tech campus.

The Blacksburg Vintage Market presents their June Market on Sunday, June 10, 2018, 10:00 AM-5:00 PM at Market Square Park.

Come out to Market Square Park in downtown Blacksburg the second Sunday of the month for the Blacksburg Vintage Market. You will find vendors offering a variety of vintage vinyl, clothing, jewelry, upcycled goods and other treasures.

The market also features live music from local musicians most afternoons.

Blacksburg VA Home Sales April 2018

The Coal Mining Heritage Association of Montgomery County will hold the 25th Annual Coal Miners Day Celebration at the McCoy Community Park on Saturday, May 19, 2018.  The festivities run from 9:00AM-3:00PM. 

Help us celebrate the rich coal mining heritage of Montgomery County!

Activities include:

• Live Music & Entertainment Throughout the Day

• Coal Mining Exhibits

• Classic Car Drive-In

• Crafts & Demonstrations

• Silent Auction

• Food for Purchase

Live music will be performed by Heaven Bound, High Grass, Route 8 Ramblers, and Half Throttle. Additionally, the Appalachian Aftershock Clogging Group will perform.

There will be an opening ceremony at 9:00 am and a memorial ceremony honoring former coal miners at 2:00 pm.
