Desi Sowers Named 2010 REALTOR® of the Year in the New River Valley

Desi Sowers, a real estate agent with RE/MAX 8 in Blacksburg, was named REALTOR® of the Year for 2010 by the New River Valley Association of REALTORS® Saturday evening at the organization’s annual awards banquet.

The award is the highest honor the NRV Association bestows, and is awarded in recognition of business accomplishments as well as contributions to the organization.

“I’m honored beyond words,” Sowers said. “I love what I do. I get up each morning excited about what the day may bring in the world of real estate, new people I may meet, new skills I may learn. There’s never a dull moment, and real estate is the perfect industry for a people person like me.”

“Desi’s amazing,” said RE/MAX 8 Broker Amy Hudson. “Always upbeat, always enthusiastic, always with a smile on her face, always with something new – a skill, a website, a technology – to share. She earned this award MANY times over.”

“I’ve known Desi since she began her career in real estate,” said RE/MAX 8 Manager Diana Blair. “She is an extremely fast learner, remembers the smallest details with remarkable recall, enjoys people, and holds herself to the highest possible standards with regards to ethics. Desi is a gem. We are honored to have her at RE/MAX 8.”

Winning awards is nothing new to Sowers. Her impressive history includes:

Sowers also has a history of giving back to the industry and community she loves.

She has served as the director of the New River Valley Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors and is a member of the National Association of REALTORS, Virginia Association of REALTORS, National Chapter Certified Residential Specialists and Virginia Chapter Certified Residential Specialists as well.

She also currently serves on the Technology Committee for the NRV Association of REALTORS® - a niche of the industry near and dear to her heart.

“I’m a geek,” Sowers said with a grin. “Put me in a store and I head for the electronics department. Give me a new gadget and I’m engaged for hours.”

“Desi’s usually one of the first to have new technology, one of the first to try out new websites and programs,” said Blair. “And she shares what she learns freely, which is wonderful.”

She isn’t one to shy away from the classroom either.
“I want to learn as much as I can, as fast as I can, about this industry,” Sowers said, “so I can provide my clients with the best and fullest possible service.”
